Born and raised in Hollywood, and the grandchild of Holocaust survivors, Solvej Schou showcases a raw bluesy vocal strut with guitar inspired by Janis Joplin, X, Pretenders, Etta James, PJ Harvey, Sharon Jones and Patti Smith. Singing since she was a kid, she performed as a teen as part of the Riot Grrrl-led scene of female artists in Los Angeles and at cultural hub Regeneración. Now based in Pasadena, Calif., she has played solo and in bands (Bitch & Moan, The Lassiebeat, Racquet, Naughty Bird) in L.A., New York City and Copenhagen, Denmark. Her 2019 album “Quiet For Too Long” is filled with ferocious vocals, soulful lyrics and fuzz-soaked rock ‘n’ roll. LA Weekly featured the record as its album of the week (

Schou released her unapologetic, vulnerable and defiant self-titled debut solo album in late 2014, followed by the 2015 single “Friendship,” a full-band electric version of a song from her late 2014 self-titled debut album. Soulful, big and recorded live at Medley Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark by Henrik West, who engineered, mixed and mastered the song, “Friendship” made L.A. Record’s best of 2015 reader poll. Schou’s lyrics dive into the nuanced strength, power and vulnerability of friends and friendships. The song features Schou’s soaring vocals, with West on bass, Björn Jönsson on drums, Anders Bo Jespersen on guitar and Lars Rahbek Andresen on piano. The session was also special for Schou since the legendary musician Prince, a favorite of hers, recorded at Medley Studios decades earlier.
